Why This Story Matters, meet ...

Susan Chappelear

Raising a child with severe ADHD, learning disabilities, and a rare genetic disorder gave Susan Chappelear the insight and inspiration to create Skyler and the Moonstone Medallions.

The story was born from a family conversation — while her husband, John Chappelear, author of The Daily Six (G.P. Putnam’s Sons), was exploring a children’s adaptation of his work. That spark became a decade-long journey to bring Skyler and her classmates to life — kids who face the same fears, doubts, and triumphs as so many real children do.

A lifelong interior designer and writer, Susan has published fiction and essays, written for local newspapers, and shared her creative insights on her blog Design Love Home. She lives in Jacksonville, Florida, with John and their rescue dog, Hitch — with frequent visits to their three entrepreneurial, dog-loving children across the U.S.
